JUUP Original

The operating principle of Original is based on the löyly idea of the smoke sauna and JUUP’s original patent (no. 31463, from 1952).

In the deep stone bowl, the lower stones become very hot directly above the firebox, while the surface stones stay more moderately warm.

When water is thrown on the stove, it runs through the surface stones down to the hottest stones at the bottom. The hot steam rises back through the cooler surface stones, which softens the löyly and gives it plenty of moisture.

First calculate the room volume:

width × depth × height

Then add one cubic metre for each uninsulated square metre of glass, brick, stone, tile or concrete. A glass door is included.

If every wall is uninsulated solid log, multiply the actual volume by 1.5.

JUUP Original is sized for large sauna rooms of 20–40 m³ calculated volume.

The standard delivery includes the JUUP Original stove, glass door, chosen handles, and user and installation instructions. The stove is prepared for both top and rear flue connection.

Sauna stones, flue, a separate vertical-outlet conversion kit, stove base, protective walls, water heater and transport are not included unless agreed in the order confirmation.

We recommend dark vulcanite or other natural stones suitable for wood-burning sauna stoves (such as peridotite or olivine diabase).

Place large stones at the bottom of the deep stone bowl and fill the top loosely with smaller stones so water can run freely down to the hot bottom stones. Rinse stones thoroughly before stacking.

Without separate protection, minimum distances to combustible materials are 300 mm at the sides and rear, 300 mm in front and 900 mm above.

Final installation must always follow the instructions and local fire regulations.

Original has a five-year warranty in private use and a one-year warranty in other use.

The warranty covers the stove body and stone bowl structure, and burn-through and rust-through when the stove is used and maintained according to the instructions.

Original follows JUUP’s original form language and smoke-sauna philosophy.

It is designed to work with a single deep stone bowl and a closed cylindrical body, without the dual stone chamber structure of Iivari and Gösta or the Kaski, Punos and Havu structures.

Yes. Original can take a stove-connected 20-litre stainless JUUP water heater fitted to the side of the stove.

Depending on use, the water typically reaches about 60–65 °C in around one hour.

Original has a 115 mm outer-diameter flue connection. The stove can be connected from the top or the rear.

A separate vertical-outlet conversion kit is also available. The flue temperature class must be at least T600, and the stove must not be connected to a shared flue. The final flue solution must follow the site and local regulations.

In a correctly sized, well-working large sauna the reference time to about 60 °C is 45–60 minutes. Heat-up time depends on starting temperature, wall materials, draught and firewood quality.

The deep stone bowl of Original stores a large amount of heat, which keeps the löyly soft and moist for a long time during bathing.

Empty the ash pan before heating and check regularly that ash has not built up in the smoke channels or at the edges of the kivimalja.

Check and restack stones at least once a year. Remove crumbled stones so air and water can circulate. The flue should be swept regularly.

Cooled metal surfaces can be wiped with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasives.
